One of the challenges I face as a parent is cultivating an attitude of gratitude within my children. In all honesty, I don’t know that I ever gave much thought to teaching them about gratitude. When they were young, it was easy – we taught them that when you receive something, say “thank you”. And they did. And I was happy with that. But what I am noticing as they age is that it’s about more than saying words, although that is important. Far more significant is the attitude of their heart and the ability to appreciate what they have. Overall, they do well – but the society we live in provides a multitude of challenging moments where they must wrestle with wanting more, wanting it now, and feeling slighted if they don’t get it.
